“I’ll be very honest: Anakin Skywalker puts a little pressure on me when I write, because everything he touches ends badly,” Johnston told StarWars.com. “Qui-Gon dies, his mother dies, Padmé dies. The galaxy collapses. For the people in the Anakin Skywalker story, it’s not good if he’s the main character. However, he is not the main character of “The Queen’s Hope.” He has a romantic interest. He’s a sweetheart. And thanks to that, I’m free to write him a little nicer. He’s ….not very happy because the Jedi don’t really. But it’s like his life has never been better. He’s really good at fighting. He loves the obvious “these people are good, these people are bad” conflicts. And he’s married to the love of his life, so, you know, things go to Anakin at this point, which makes the writing really quite interesting because, of course, we all know what’s going to happen. But there are those moments with them when they feel real love. They love each other so much that they never have time, and that’s their tragedy. They never have time to talk, they never have time to think, and I have to write a very small piece of that time that people have been looking forward to for a long time.”
All this happens as Chancellor Palpatine continues to manipulate the war behind the scenes. Here is the official synopsis of the book:
“A peace-loving senator faces war in another thrilling adventure by New York Times bestselling author Padme Amidala of The Queen of Danger and The Queen of Darkness!
Padme gets used to being a senator during the Clone Wars. Her secret husband, Anakin Skwalker, goes to war and excels as a Jedi warrior. Padme, however, is horrified at the sight of the dead on the war-torn front lines. The stakes have never been higher, either for the galaxy or for the newlyweds.
While Padme is on a secret mission, her maid Sabe creeps into the role of Senator Amidala, something no maid has done in a long time. In the Senate, Padme is equally horrified by the machinations going on. She faces an instinctive decision when she realizes that she cannot wage war this way, even for Padme’s sake.
And Chancellor Palpatine hovers above it all, manipulating the players for his own ends…”
