Gerard Piqué has returned from injury and will take part in the 1/16 Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain at the Camp Nou stadium on Tuesday.

The defender has not been on the list since his knee injury against Atletico Madrid in November last year, but he is listed alongside the physically fit Martin Braithwaite.

Will Peak play?

Peake’s return means Koeman has to make an important decision on who will play in central defence against the French champions. The Dutch coach must decide whether Piqué should return to the game immediately or whether he should start on the bench.

Clement Lenglet, Samuel Umtiti and youngster Oscar Mingesa are also available, but Peake’s vast experience could incline Koeman to trust the 34-year-old again.

PSG have to cope in the Nou camp without Angel Di Maria and Neymar, who are injured, but with Kylian Mbappe, one of the most prolific strikers in Europe, keeping his head above water. The Frenchman is also fortunate to possess incredible speed that Barca will struggle to control, especially without Araujo in the team.

Koeman is not afraid of MTP

Koeman was in a confident mood before the game after his side went 12 games unbeaten in La Liga. The Barca boss said at a press conference on Monday that his side’s good form had boosted players’ confidence ahead of the tricky match.

I said after that draw that I believe in my team, that we have a lot of good players. I think we have improved our style of play and the result, but at the time of the draw I thought it was a very balanced game. We are very ambitious for this match, we understand that our confidence has grown and our chances of winning this match have increased, and that is very important.

PSG reached the final of the tournament last season, but lost 1-0 to Bayern Munich and are expected to return to the tournament. Koeman says he respects the team’s recent performances in Europe but is not afraid of the French champions.

I am not afraid of anything, because I have full confidence in my players. I respect my opponent, because he is strong and with his recent record in the Champions League, he is one of the favourites. We’re going to try to dominate the game. Every team has positives and negatives and we have to try to take advantage of the negatives.

An exciting match is expected at Camp Nou, where Barca have a solid record in big European games. The Catalans have suffered tough Champions League defeats against Roma, Liverpool and Bayern Munich in the last three seasons, but they will need a big performance to beat PSG.
