This is the moment we have all been waiting for. The greatest sorcerer the world has ever seen has been cast out of his own dimension, and all that stands in his way is the multiverse itself. With the power of the Time Stone in full effect, Doctor Strange has pulled out all the stops to try and save himself and the multiverse from Thanos in only forty-five minutes.
There’s been buzz that Doctor Strange will explore the Multiverse of Madness, home to the many alternate dimensions that Marvel Comics’ legendary sorcerer has visited in his career. Described as “a mile wide and an inch deep”, the Multiverse is a convenient way to explain the many bizarre realities that the character has visited. The Multiverse is currently divided into five distinct planes, which include the following:
Phase 0 of the MCU was a special one. Not only did it introduce the new Doctor, but it also gave us that heartbreaking scene in the hospital after the séance. We saw the full merging of the two universes through the prism of the new Doctor, as he gazed at the cityscape he was about to walk into forever. In the scene, the Doctor was almost overcome by the enormity of all that he had achieved.. Read more about loki and let us know what you think.
Last week, the season finale of Loki aired on Disney+, and the entrance of Jonathan Majors as “He Who Remains” threw everything into disarray. We already knew Majors would appear in the MCU as Kang, and Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) murdering this version of the character has put in motion a multiversal chain of events that will most certainly impact the rest of the MCU. In reality, Loki concluded with Mobius M. Mobius (Owen Wilson) forgetting about Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and the TVA erecting a massive Kang monument. Given the title of the Doctor Strange sequel, Doctor Strange in the Universe of Madness, it’s no wonder the MCU is branching out into the multiverse. Not to mention all of the casting speculations for Spider-Man: No Way Home, which would indicate that the multiverse is at work. Kate Herron, the director of Loki, recently spoke on’s Phase Zero podcast, where she was asked how and whether the Marvel filmmakers interact with one another.
“Certainly not among filmmakers. So, essentially, every filmmaker has some kind of, you work with a Marvel executive producer, “Herron said. “So I was working with a producer named Kevin Wright, and he’d have those internal discussions and then come back and say, ‘This is whatever we need to shift from that larger multiverse debate.’ So there were certainly points in the narrative where we changed it, especially in how we explain things in the Miss Minutes video. And then, obviously, like when When He Remains tells his narrative and how he accomplished everything, I believe it was, we had a concept, but it was constantly changing depending on the ripple effect of the beast’s nature.”
Many easter eggs were included in Loki’s sixth episode, including the Yellowjacket helmet from Ant-Man. Herron was questioned by Phase Zero whether it was something that director Peyton Reed should handle.
“So it was a proposal from Dan DeLeeuw, our VFX supervisor, and it didn’t get to him. But, as I previously said, our executive producer, Kevin Wright, served as a kind of Marvel gatekeeper. That’s how they do things, so he’d be familiar with all of that. And I suppose someone behind the curtain is checking to see whether Kevin Feige is alright and that nothing else has been unraveled. But no, I think it was just enjoyable in general, throughout Marvel and everyone, right? It was simply a lot of fun to have with it and give out so many different kinds of Easter eggs. So, there you have it.”
Following the conclusion of WandaVision, we talked with producer Mary Livanos, who also provided insight into how Marvel producers interact with one another.
“On the other projects, I’m definitely not blind,” Livanos said. “As producers, we’re bound to communicate a lot and have constant dialogues, and it’s actually one of my favorite parts of the job to be able to call up Richie Palmer, the producer on Doctor Strange 2, and just chat, brainstorm, catch up, and make sure that everything we’re doing is helping them and just mind-meld, which is fantastic. As a result, there is a lot of communication.” She went on to say, “Especially as the Universe expands. It is critical.”
“As producers at Marvel, we have a really unique chance that is a complete awesome luxury,” Livanos said. “Being able to concentrate creatively on one to two projects at a time, maybe towards the conclusion of your project, is an amazing gift because we’re 100 percent engaged in the narrative we’re trying to tell. And we’re able to dedicate ourselves completely to the narrative we’re producing at the moment and to our characters. That’s great, and I believe it’s why Marvel has had so much success. We’re able to devote our entire attention to the job, which is fantastic. Kevin [Feige] is the brightest guy on the planet.”
