Antonio Brown sat out training camp, and has since been suspended indefinitely for a violation of the NFL’s substance abuse policy. Brown’s suspension came only days after he underwent knee surgery, and he’s reportedly been pain-free since.

TAMPA, Fla. — A year ago, without a club and facing an eight-game ban for violating the NFL’s personal conduct code, Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Antonio Brown had no idea where his NFL career would take him or if he would ever be given the opportunity to play again.
Brown said the most important thing he’s taken away from this past year has been gratitude. Fast forward to training camp in 2021, after focusing on his personal life and finding his role in a Super Bowl offense, not only finding, but thriving in it, Brown said the most important thing he’s taken away from this past year has been gratitude.
“Last year, life was full of uncertainty,” Brown remarked on Monday. “Would I even get the chance to play football if I was suspended?” “I always remember where I was last year to make sure I appreciate [this], to have the right respect and to be grateful that I’m at this point right here, with all of my goals in front of me and an opportunity to do what I love. There’s a lot I can appreciate right now.”
“I’ve simply learned to appreciate the situation I’m in. Keep the proper perspective. And remain thankful. A.P.G. Appreciation — appreciate the chance I have to do what I love. Keeping the right perspective. Knowing it’s larger than me.
Brown and his former trainer Britney Taylor struck an agreement this offseason, after Taylor accused Brown of sexually abusing her in a legal complaint filed in 2019. The details of the settlement were not revealed, but Taylor’s lawyer told ESPN that the two “decided it was time to move on.”
Brown’s felony probation for an altercation with a delivery truck driver was also shortened by a year owing to good behavior, but the driver is still suing him.

After sustaining an injury during the NFC divisional playoff game against the New Orleans Saints in May, he had arthroscopic knee surgery, which caused him to miss the NFC Championship Game. Bucs coach Bruce Arians stated, “This is the healthiest he’s been in a few years.” “It’s been troubling him for a few years, but now it’s all cleaned up, so it’s OK.”
“He probably needed that procedure, but he wouldn’t do it. It’s amazing, I was talking to Emmanuel Sanders last night, and that was his first surgery — ever. At his age , it’s just amazing. It’s remarkable how he takes care of himself. He’s playing at a pace we didn’t see four or five years ago.”
Brown, who has compared quarterback Tom Brady like a brother, continues to be influenced by him. After a few communication snags early in camp, the two have showed great synergy, and Brown has looked virtually unstoppable throughout sessions.
Brown may very well return to his All-Pro form from his time with the Pittsburgh Steelers if he spends a full year in Arians’ system with Brady. Still, because the Bucs have so many weapons in Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Rob Gronkowski, Scotty Miller, O.J. Howard, and Cameron Brate, who was removed from the PUP list on Monday, replicating his stats when he led the NFL in receiving yards in 2014 and 2017, and receptions in 2014 and 2015, may be a tall order.
“It means everything to me,” Brown said of the chance to spend another year with Brady.
